Hue’s taste got tainted with news of the earthquake, subsequent tsunami and nuclear emergency in Japan. We learned about it first while in HoiAn but the situation, as horrible and devastating as it was for the people in Japan, did not seem to directly affect our plans of travel at that very moment. However, as the updates kept coming and nuclear crisis 2000km away deepened, we grew restless, or at least I have, wondering if and how soon we should change our itinerary. We've packed a bag full of medications, band-aids, eye-drops, ear-drops, antibiotics and malaria pills, even iodine for water purification, none of which came in useful so far - but how could we have made a safety net for a nuclear meltdown?? We were not prepared for this one. We couldn’t have been.
