1.1.11, Bielsko - Warszawa

Warszawa - last leg of our travel in Poland. We’ve arrived in style. Quiet, fast, and super clean, our connecting train from Katowice was an epiphany of comfort, an overachieving student raising a bar in a class full of underachievers.
A load of morning stress in anticipation of the trip appeared to be uncalled for until the train conductor said our tickets were simply…invalid. Invalid?? - was our synchronized response - What do you mean invalid??  Just because it says they’re valid from 12.31 to 01.01 does NOT mean you can start your journey on the 01.01, it only allows you to CONTINUE your journey UNTIL 01.01, you HAVE TO  get on the first train precisely on the 12.31 - she said with polite authority. Hugh???
Sebastian was using all his charms to dig us out. Zawiercie, his hometown, was sliding passed in the background. Hoping for a bureaucratic miracle I made the eyes of the cat from Shrek, said we were informed otherwise at the train station, and finished with an explanation that confused even myself.
A long pause and a consult of two conductors followed. Then at last,  they validated our tickets with a stamp and we sighted, filled with huge relief. Happy New Year to us!

Lesson learned - make no assumptions with PKP.

Last night. Goodbyes are the worst.
